This is an evocative narrative of a young lady taking time to relax while reading a favourite book under the watch of the iconic Mont St Michel on the Normandy/Brittany border in the company of her beloved and iconic Citroen 2CV. The work is painted on a prepared board in a custom made frame set in turn in a contemporary white tray frame.
Tower Bridge at Twilight
An impressionist-style waterclour of Tower Bridge and the London skyline at twilight with a steam barge and it's smokey steam setting the scene to the right of the foreground. Painted in just 3 colours: raw sienna, light red and french ultramarine. This was commissioned. I'm currently undertaking a similar painting for a client using acrylic on canvas and I'm happy to take similar commissions in waterclour or acrylic.
King Fisher Romance is a large contemporary landscape oil painting of two kingfishers flying along a river. It is 36x60x1.5 inches with white edges, ready to hang. From the right, a female kingfisher flies towards a male who is rising out of the river to meet her. There are trees and golden light emanating through the trees on the opposite bank and lots of wildflowers with sinuous art nouveau style lines and shapes. It is semi abstract and extremely vibrant in colour. The inspiration for the painting was a kingfisher I saw along the riverbank at Fordcombe near Tunbridge Wells this summer. It was only the second one I have seen and it is like seeing a feathered jewel. The river is quite narrow and almost hard to see in places when the summer reeds and flowers line the banks. River walks are a common inspiration for me as they are timeless and quite magical if you find the right places. If you want to see the spot, go to postcode TN3 0SP and walk east along the river
Calming mountain vista in graduated browns and blues. Trees scatter the foreground hillside in calming silhouette. The relaxing colours in this painting will complement most colour schemes and brighten any room. The painting continues round the edges of this box canvas so it is ready to hang with no need for framing. This creates a very simple but effective style. This painting has been finished with a protective satin varnish.
Day and Night Diptych.
Each piece is 30ins sq. When Shaun creates a piece of work the process is mainly based on his experimenting with colour and textures combined with his emotions and environment at that time. On completion his aim is for you the viewer to see their own interpretation when looking at the artwork. His paintings are not primarily intended to create definitive images although that is what you the viewer may perceive. However, if asked from his perspective, Shaun would say using multi-layers of paint, textures and colours are more important. Colours will vary slightly from screen resolution. Room example only not too scale. Framed in recycled similar shades hand painted pale white wood effects, ready to hang. Signed on the back. With certificate of authenticity.
The Factory Outing
This is No.20 of my `Northern Art` collection. They are all the same size, just 14" x 10" x half inch thick. I paint the edges as well so no framing is required. They all depict a bygone time, with vintage vehicles, and life generally in mainly northern sooty smokey mill towns. In this one the factory has treated all the workers to a day out, and it looks like they are headed across the moors, hopefully to somewhere exciting. I would say they are glad to be away from the great smoking chimneys...which can been seen in the distant valley. These are all painted on my own HANDMADE canvas boards...which are about half inch thick, with a high quality close weave canvas.
This is a view looking east from the track round Teggs Nose Country Park. It's a wonderful patchwork of fields on the rolling hills, topped with the skyline trees of Macclesfield Forest. Oil on board. On display with the Macc Open Online Exhibition 11/6 - 16/8/2020 with 30% of proceeds going to East Cheshire Hospice.
