A Day Away
This is No.18 in my `Northern Art` Collection...all the other 17 have been sold, and they seem to becoming quite a collectable item. They are all the same size, just a tactile 14" x 10" x half an inch thick. Painted on my own HANDMADE canvas boards. Sides are also painted so ready to hang, no frame required. Here the grandparents have taken the nippers away for a day out, from the smog, and fog of the sooty town. These paintings all have the same theme of a bygone era of the northern mill towns.

Nature Unleashed is a very large oil painting on canvas of an exuberant Sussex wildflower meadow featuring the South Downs, swallows and poppies. It is 72x48x1.5 inches. The style is semi-abstract and art nouveau and is very vibrant and colourful. It was inspired by walks taken in fields and woodlands around the South Downs in summer when the wildflowers are at their best and the poppies, in particular, stand out against the green grass and reeds. The scene shows an abundance of flowers in the foreground and trees and fields leading off into the distance behind them. Two barn swallows swoop over the flowers and you can see the patterns their motion makes. Swallows are birds you see often in Sussex and they are very much woven into the landscape of summer. The painting was made from memory using reference phots to add small details here and there. Memory painting tends to reflect how I felt about a place I have been to rather than ârealisticâ details as such and I like this way of working. What I feel about an English Sussex summer is that it is beautiful and wild and I am happy I caught this feeling and in such a large canvas! The edges are dark green and it is ready to hang, no frame needed
Last light of the day
This is from a photograph of Reculver Towers on the North Kent Coast, taken just before the light of the Sun faded. Standing in the centre of these ruins, I always get a real sense of its past and those who left their souls here. The last picture shows the Towers when they were once part of the medieval church of St Mary. Well worth a visit!
Thoughts of the Past
Part of my ongoing landscape of the mind series of paintings. This mindscape painting attempts to conjure memories of the dying milltown from my childhood memories. Acrylic on stretched canvas. This painting is strung on the back and ready to hang. The edges are painted white for a clean contemporary look.
