Description:
Chaos in the Meadow is a joyful semi abstract oil painting illustrating the sheer chaos of nature that you find in a flower meadow in summer. It is 36x30x1.5 inches. The painting is semi abstract in style and is extremely colourful. Many different types of flower and grasses are hinted at and all of them are trying to get attention which causes a beautiful chaos. This painting was made after a walk on the Sussex South Downs and I love how this one tiny patch of wildflower meadow showed me so much life and enthusiasm. I have used layers and glazes of colours to give this painting an iridescent glow and its colours change throughout the day because of this - almost like stained glass. Behind the flowers you can just about see some of the fields below the hills looking towards Lewes. It is dedicated to all those walkers, cyclists and environmentalists that I meet on the downs who are helping to keep this area beautiful and its nature thriving. Journeys End
Description:
Journeys End is a very colourful original oil painting showing the light at the end of a vibrant autumn canal path. It is 36x30x1.5 inches. This magical landscape is semi abstract in style and catapults the viewer towards a turn in the path where the light is showing the exit of the dark tree tunnel by a river. The colours are rich bright autumn colours and the painting has a lot of impact due the edges being blurred which give it an energy and a promise that is quite unique. The inspiration for the painting was trying to show the feeling of having achieved a goal, the feeling of triumph and relief that you feel when a job has been done or when you have finally found the solution to a problem that has been on your mind for a very very long time. Summer Riot
Description:
Summer Riot is a large square semi-abstract landscape painting of a hare in a wild summer meadow. It is 40x40x1.5 inches. The idea of this painting was to show the sheer enthusiasm with which nature expresses itself â even in the smallest corner of a summer field. It is literally exploding with life and energy. The flowers are fairly abstract but hint at buttercups and clover and a mad array of grasses and other wildflowers. The hare is hiding to the right of the centre of the summer explosion and she looks a little confused by it all. The edges are blurred and the paint thickness varies a lot in order to add to the slightly mad energy of it. It was painted after a walk I took recently near the South Downs where the farmland is simply beautiful and a corner of a meadow is endlessly entertaining (to me at least). I did see a hare in the distance but she did pose for more as this one does (I do love artistic license). Stag Materializing

Stag Materializing
Stag Materializing is an oil painting of a red deer stag painted in a semi abstract style and in vibrant rainbow colours. It is 40x40x1.5 inches. The painting is multilayered and multicoloured but the predominate colours are purples and oranges. The face and antlers of the stag are painted in a portrait style but the body becomes more and more transparent as it recedes into the strange space of the background. To the right is the hint of a pine tree. The painting was made as I sometimes really just want to paint a beautiful animal. Be advised that there is a texture to the painting as another painting is underneath it (also of a stag but smaller) some of this can be detected by touching it but it does not affect the majesty of the painting. The Spell Caster
Description:
The Spell Caster is a warm, colourful autumn woodland path semi-abstract painting with barn owl. It is 30x30x1.5 inches. The painting is mostly orange and purple and though is clearly of woodland, it is built up with many transparent layers of rainbow colours and vertical marks and drips that give the painting the idea of it flickering in and out of a different reality. I find woodland magical and I find owls magical and I love autumn so this is the combination of those things. It was mostly inspired by some of areas of woodland around the Ashdown Forest in Sussex where you can go quite suddenly from a sunlight heathland into dark and sinister patches of dark forest. Spirited Away
Description:
Spirited Away is a semi-abstract explosion of a landscape showing daisies in a summer meadow. It is 40x40x1.5 inches. The daisies are seen in a meadow with trees behind them and a stag can be seen watching in the distance. He is ready to spirit away anyone who wants to follow him (a reference to the fact that deer are often seen as spiritual guides or messengers in more than one culture). Natures Cathedral, an autumn landscape
Description:
Natures Cathedral is a very large golden oil painting of an autumn forest clearing. It is 60x36x1.5 inches. The painting shows the view into a clearing along an autumn path with a semi-transparent deer stag just visible on the left. The style is semi abstract and contains the full range of vibrant autumn colours but with a golden hue across them. There is also the hint of beams of light shining thought the trees at many different angles and that helps create a feeling of energy and something otherworldly. The painting was inspired by various woodland walks taken in the Sussex area and the odd glimpse of deer in them. I am sometimes struck by how woodland paths are almost spiritual in the feeling they give off â hence the name. Forests are natureâs cathedrals. You can often feel you are being observed in forests and I like the how different forests evoke different emotions. Some are welcoming, some are just barely tolerating your interruption and some are actually quite sinister. This painting is a big welcoming glowing forest. Midsummer Jubilance
Description:
Midsummer Jubilance is a big joyful oil painting of poppies in a summer meadow under a tree. It is semi-abstract and slightly art nouveau in style. 40x40x1.5 inches. The intention of this painting was to show the way that nature competes, especially in summer, to get the attention of what it needs. In the case of poppies, it needs bees and other poppies, sunlight, water and possibly many other things. I love how in spring and summer this desire to be seen reaches a peak and have tried to show the sheer jubilance of a simple clump of summer poppies. The tree behind has its branches spread wide and reaching outwards which adds to the energy of the landscape. The location that sparked the idea for this painting was on some hills in Sussex where I sat under a tree last summer and simply enjoyed watching the flowers, smelling the scent of them and hearing the buzz of insects. It is a simple painting with a simple idea and is dedicated to everyone else who loves nature and seeks to keep it safe and thriving. In His Element
Description:
In His Element is a vibrant semi abstract oil painting of a peacock blending into in a magical bluebell wood. It is 36x30x1.5 inches. The peacock is looking to his right under the green spring woodland trees. His tail is spread out around him and is sinking into the lush carpet of bluebells. His colours match the scene beautifully which is why he is in his element. The painting style is semi abstract, slightly art nouveau and is depicted in an exuberant, loose and blurry way so that it seems to shimmer. The vertical layers and lines are like a curtain that present different aspects of the same scene simultaneously. The concept of the painting was simply the idea of seeing a peacock in a bluebell wood. I would like to see it!
