The Spirit Guides
Description:
The Spirit Guides is a white semi-abstract painting of a group of red deer in a snowy winter woodland. It is 40x40x1.5 inches. The stag and three female deer stand in formation so that they can see from every angle. There are trees around them and thickly painted snow. Though the deer were painted fairly realistically, they have been blurred and made more ethereal by glazing over with white paint which makes them look as if that are just appearing and could disappear just as easily (as deer seem to do in real life). The painting title refers to commonly found folklore that deer are fairies in disguise or guides to other worlds. I have always loved that idea and this is not my first tribute to it. The style of the painting is slightly art nouveau and unique. It is a fresh white painting and will appeal to anyone who, like me, loves deer and wildlife and the spiritual nature of them. The stag and three does in this painting are a common inspiration for me as I often see this combination when out walking. I like to think it is the same four deer but that is wishful thinking even for me... Painted on deep edge canvas, ready to hang, no frame needed and comes with certificate of authenticity.

Ocean Magicians
Description:
Ocean Magicians is a very large blue and turquoise seascape painting of a Caribbean Sea, beach and sky but with an unusual twist to it. It is 60x36x1.5 inches. The sky is a deep cobalt blue and the sea is turquoise with white lacy waves rippling gently onto the shore. Eight white tern birds are dancing in the centre of the painting as if casting a spell. They were painted slightly transparently in order to enhance the ethereal quality these birds have for me. The line of the horizon shows a sand bank and deep dark water behind it and there is a lilac band of colour where the sky reaches the sea. All these factors were present on the day I saw all this on a recent trip to Aruba. My difficulty was that I did not want to paint just another Caribbean seascape. I wanted to show some of my awe for the location and sea and the birds in a way that is not hackneyed. I think I achieved this. It is dedicated to all the lovely people of Aruba. It really is one of the friendliest places ever. Painted on deep edge canvas, painted to match the painting, ready to hang and comes with certificate of authenticity from the artist

New Beginnings
Description:
New Beginnings is an original oil painting in an ethereal semi-abstract style of a roebuck deer in a woodland glade. It is 36x36x1.5inches. The painting is vibrant and multi-coloured and hints at trees and leaves and dappled light in a spring forest. The roebuck is only half formed and it watching the viewer haughtily as roe deer tend to. Three shapes towards the centre of the canvas form tenuous portals or openings that could lead elsewhere. This painting was inspired by that exact idea. Often, especially in the ancient woodland copses of Sussex, I feel I could turn a corner and be in a whole new world. I like the idea â especially when I find a deer watching me (which is quite often in southern England). Anyone who walks in woodland will know the thrill of looking out from the trees to a clearing or a path beyond and that is the wonder of woodland and possibly one of the reasons so many fairy stories and folklore are founded in forests. Painted on deep edge canvas, ready to hang, no frame needed and comes with certificate of authenticity.

Winter Calling
Description:
Winter Calling is a colourful English winter landscape with snow glimpsed through the last leaves of autumn. It is 36x24x1.5 inches. This painting was made after a winter walk I took near the Mayfield area of Sussex where there are many small hills and vales part of the high Weald (formerly a vast ancient forest in the south of England) . This view was one I came across of a farm on a hill with light snow around it seen from a small woodland. Some of leaves were still on the trees in reds and golds as well as the dark green of ivy on the oak tree trunks. I love the contrast of cold colours to warm colours. Like most of my landscape paintings, this is not an unusual subject but I have nevertheless tried to portray it in a unique way so that some of the longing I feel for such places is expressed (yes, I desperately wish I lived in that farm). The painting is on wide edge canvas painted a muted purple colour which integrates into the edges of the painting and helps propel the viewer into the scenery. Painted on deep edge canvas, ready to hang, no frame needed and comes with certificate of authenticity.

Nature Unbound
Description:
Nature Unbound is a large semi-abstract English countryside oil painting of a river with swallows, wildflowers and the South Downs behind. It is 60x36x1.5 inches. The painting is semi-abstract art nouveau, realistic, ethereal and energetic in its finish and totally unique in style. It looks interesting close up and also from a distance. It shows a view across the bend of a river towards hills with mad clumps of wildflowers each side radiating out from the centre of the painting. Meanwhile on the right, a swallow is speeding across the river with several more swallows behind her in the same rush of motion. The painting was inspired by a walk I took along the river Arun in August last year. The swallows move very fast feeding on the insects along the river and the flowers really were this explosive. I felt happy and I have expressed this plus the energy of the scene which is what it makes it different to more traditionally rendered landscapes. I am keeping it on my own wall until it is sold as it takes me to a very happy place whenever I see it! Painted on deep edge canvas, wide edges, ready to hang and comes with a certificate of authenticity.

Summer Calling
Description:
Summer Calling is a colourful semi-abstract oil painting of a field of flowers in summertime near the South Downs in Sussex. It is 36x24x1.5 inches. The painting shows lacy white flowers in the foreground which look as if they are in motion. This is a reflection of the feeling I sometimes get in spring and summer that the flowers are ecstatically happy and are giving it everything they have whilst the season allows it. Behind the flowers you can see the view across a meadow towards trees and the hills beyond. This spot is loosely based on a place near Selmeston in Sussex where there is a meadow that looks directly towards the South Downs. I like to walk on the hills but I also love the fields below them where you can walk in quiet farmland undisturbed and just absorb the sounds and scents of the countryside there. The painting is on wide edge canvas painted a muted purple colour which integrates into the edges of the painting and helps propel the viewer into the scenery. Painted on deep edge canvas, ready to hang, no frame needed and comes with certificate of authenticity

Spring Calling
Description:
Spring Calling is a vibrant semi abstract landscape painting of the glorious view across a bluebell field towards a green valley and the Ashdown Forest beyond. It is 36x24x1.5 inches. This landscape shows blossom trees at the top of a high bank on the left with cast shadows across most of the painting filled with bluebells. The valley below shows luminous green trees and beyond them is the Ashdown Forest. This painting was formulated in my mind last April after a late afternoon walk l I took near where I live. The sun was still bright but the shadows were long and the scent of bluebells and blossom was almost too much. I love the contrast between the sweep of shadows where the bluebells are growing to light in the clearing below plus the way some of the pink blossom was lit from the low rays of the sun. It was one of those bucolic places you come across sometimes in Sussex which is not dramatic but still takes your breath away. The painting is on wide edge canvas painted a muted purple colour which integrates into the edges of the painting and helps propel the viewer into the scenery. Painted on deep edge canvas, ready to hang, no frame needed and comes with certificate of authenticity

The Eldritch Hart
Description:
The Eldritch Hart is a large original oil painting of a frosty January morning in England with a lone deer hart watching from the shadows of the path. It is a 48x36x1.5 inches oil on canvas. It is semi-abstract and unique in style and seems to shimmer between reality and abstract. The painting was inspired by a walk I took in the Lewes, South Downs area of England in January 2025. The frost made the colours muted yellows, purples, blues and browns. The day felt magical and full of the promise of spring to come. Nature held in suspension and only the birds were active (they start to sing again in January as soon as the days start to get longer). I did see deer on this walk and they never fail to make me happy. I have tried to not only capture the colours and temperature and details of this landscape, such as the low sun through the trees and the bare trees and frosty fields, but also the energy and feeling of it. Painted on deep edge canvas, edges white, ready to hang and comes with a certificate of authenticity.

The Wild Wild Wood
Description:
The Wild Wild Wood is a semi abstract, art nouveau style painting of an autumn wood and a deer buck. It is 40x40 inches. The painting shows the view through trees on a path in a wood. There are a myriad of vibrant autumn colours and the patterns and curves created by the tree branches are quite art-nouveau in effect. There is a fallow deer buck emerging from branches and the hint of a path and other trees and a clearing beyond. I have tried to express the energy and colour explosion of a woodland by using just enough realism to show what the idea is. And the idea is how much there is to look at in a wood and how this can be expressed without painting every leaf and twig! The painting was inspired by many walks in ancient woodland and the thrill I get whenever I spot deer. Even though it is common to spot them, I still love these creatures and feel they are the real owners of trees and forests and should be respected. There is more story to this painting but viewers are free to make their own up. Painted on orange edged canvas, no frame needed, ready to hang and comes with certificate of authenticity from the artist

Forest Sentinel
Description:
Forest Sentinel is an original oil painting of a red deer stag in a glowing orange forest clearing. It is 30x30x1.5 inches. The painting is highly textured and was painted using thick impasto paint wet into wet style which gives it a rich and fluid feeling. The deer stands to the right with a clearing behind him. The predominant colours are red, purple, orange and yellow. The stag is in shadow so you can barely see his features as he is contrasted against the light. The name refers to the fact that of all forest creatures, the deer are the most likely ones to be sentinels or watchers and deer do have a spooky ability to appear and disappear very fast which adds to their mystique. Painted on deep edge canvas, edges dark red purple, ready to hang, no frame needed and comes with certificate of authenticity for the artist
