Layers of Autumn
Layers of Autumn is a large square oil painting of a woodland autumn path with a deer stag materialising out of it. It is 48x48x1.5 inches, deep edges, no frame needed and ready to hang. The painting shows a view down an autumn path and is painted in a contemporary, slightly art nouveau style. It has many overlapping layers and transparent veils that make it look as if reality is shifting. There are shafts of sunlight through vibrant coloured leaves which overlap vertical lines and make a slightly geometric composition. The white stag is painted in thick paint but remains a little mystical as he is not fully formed. Autumn paths through woodland are usually inspiring. This one is actually based on one that used to be an old railway line from East Grinstead to Groombridge where it is common to see deer through the gaps in the trees and is always a treat
A Spiral of Crows
A Spiral of Crows is a painting of Sussex winter landscape with a spiral of crows leading into the distance of a woodland path. It is 30x30x1.5 inches and was painted after a walk I took around Standen area near East Grinstead one November. It is painted in an expressionist style and in very thick impasto paint.I have a great affection for crows and ravens who I am convinced monitor me when I am walking and report back to each other. The spiral in this painting possibly leads to another dimension. I like to think so. The colours of this painting are very much England in winter colours and I am pleased with this as I am always trying to capture moments of time with these paintings. The location if you want to walk around here is: RH19 4NE. It is painted on deep edge canvas, 30x30x1.5 inches, white edges, ready to hang.
The Old Mill, Colton.
A picturesque view of the old mill at Colton near Leeds when it was a crumbling neglected ruin before it was refurbished. This small painting is the first version of the larger painting that is on show in my gallery which I feel turned out rather well considering the speed at which it was painted. It is painted on a stretched canvas with the painting continuing around the sides so no framing is required but it could be framed if you so wish.
Leopard On The Rocks
This was my first lockdown painting which was created in a very confined space, but was well worth the effort in recreating the calculating look from this elegant and powerful animal. Interpreted from a wonderful photo, this exposes her beautiful, detailed markings as she chills on the rocks in the shade from the sun. Painted in oils on boxed canvas so no need to frame.
