The Owls Symphony
Description:
The Owls Symphony is a semi-abstract, art nouveau, magical realism style oil painting of a white owl with a flower meadow behind her. It is 36x30x1.5 inches. The Owl is a white barn owl and she glides over the meadow in that mysterious way that owls do. There are sinuous lines of white energy flowing out from her which echo the movements she is making with her silent wings. She is a beautiful predator. The background is blurred and hints at a summer meadow with wildflowers and trees at the edge of the field. The owl is painted in thick paint to further emphasize the contrast between her and the background. She appears to float on the canvas in an act of classic owl gracefulness. Natures Statement
Description:
Natures Statement is an exuberant summer flower meadow landscape that aims to capture the sheer enthusiasm and abundance of a wildflower meadow in July. It is 36x30x1.5inches. The painting captures an actual site on the South Downs near Graffham and Heyshott across a field through various summer flowers in pinks, orange, yellow and faded greens and cream. The dark trees in the background help to emphasize the flowers and there is a slight hump behind the central clump of flowers which is an ancient tumulus (burial mound) of the late Neolithic period. This particular spot is one I visit often as it has an atmosphere to that is both calm but quite magical. I can easily imagine fairies and ancient souls dancing there when no one is around. I am an artist who tends to reflect the seasons in my landscapes and this is another of a series of wildflower meadow paintings made in the summer of 2024. Summer Fading
Description:
Summer Fading is a golden green abstract landscape with a white egret beside a small river with pink wildflowers. It is 40x40x1.5 inches. A white egret can be seen on the left rising out of the hidden river she was fishing in. Behind her are pink riverside flowers and beyond those you can see the glow of a golden field and shimmering trees. In the foreground you can see abstracted lines of an emerald green field. This is an actual moment of time I painted recently where I came across a startled egret by a small river. You canât see the river because of the angle but you can see the bird stretching her wings to fly out of it. The background is a golden green which helps to give this sultry abstract landscape an end of the summer type feeling â hence the title. I like to capture moments of time in natureâs cycles and this is a tiny snapshot of a little drama I enjoyed. Dedicated to all the farmers and conservationists who plant wild flowers at the edges of their fields and beside rivers. Nature Weaves a Spell
Description:
Nature Weaves a Spell is a very large oil on canvas painting in abstract vs realism style of kingfishers and by a river. It is 71x47x2 inches (181x120x5cms). Two kingfishers can be seen above the river which flows towards us from the left out of a lake. The female kingfisher is hovering and looks towards the male who is about to dive into the water. In the distance you can see hills and trees whilst in the foreground are the birds and an abundance of wildflowers on each side of the river. They hint at being the pink Himalayan Balsom plants you often see along English rivers and streams. Multiple layers of transparent rainbow paint have been used to reflect a myriad of glowing vibrant colours. The golden yellow layer looks as if it is ripping apart to reveal the landscape behind it. The kingfishers are painted in fine detail but with the motion of the wings being slightly blurred to show the energy and motion as well as the physical details of their anatomy. The interplay of abstract and realism gives this painting a magical, ethereal and spell binding quality. This painting is where I want to be! It was inspired by the occasional sightings of real kingfishers who look like tiny river jewels to me and by plenty of river walks in the countryside during the summertime. Every part of this painting has something interesting occurring in it :-) The canvas is an extra strong gallery quality aluminium frame one. The Green Kings Glade

The Green Kings Glade is a green semi-abstract oil painting of a deer stag behind a green curtain that hints of a green forest glade. It is 36x30x1.5 inches. The deer stands in the centre whilst around him you see a sea of green and the hint if trees and branches. The deer is not always easy to see as the painting has texture and facets to it that can change with the light. Journeys End
Description:
Journeys End is a very colourful original oil painting showing the light at the end of a vibrant autumn canal path. It is 36x30x1.5 inches. This magical landscape is semi abstract in style and catapults the viewer towards a turn in the path where the light is showing the exit of the dark tree tunnel by a river. The colours are rich bright autumn colours and the painting has a lot of impact due the edges being blurred which give it an energy and a promise that is quite unique. Summer Riot
Description:
Summer Riot is a large square semi-abstract landscape painting of a hare in a wild summer meadow. It is 40x40x1.5 inches. The idea of this painting was to show the sheer enthusiasm with which nature expresses itself â even in the smallest corner of a summer field. It is literally exploding with life and energy. The flowers are fairly abstract but hint at buttercups and clover and a mad array of grasses and other wildflowers. The hare is hiding to the right of the centre of the summer explosion and she looks a little confused by it all. The edges are blurred and the paint thickness varies a lot in order to add to the slightly mad energy of it. It was painted after a walk I took recently near the South Downs where the farmland is simply beautiful and a corner of a meadow is endlessly entertaining (to me at least). I did see a hare in the distance but she did pose for more as this one does (I do love artistic license). Stag Materializing
Stag Materializing is an oil painting of a red deer stag painted in a semi abstract style and in vibrant rainbow colours. It is 40x40x1.5 inches. The painting is multilayered and multicoloured but the predominate colours are purples and oranges. The face and antlers of the stag are painted in a portrait style but the body becomes more and more transparent as it recedes into the strange space of the background. To the right is the hint of a pine tree. The painting was made as I sometimes really just want to paint a beautiful animal. Be advised that there is a texture to the painting as another painting is underneath it (also of a stag but smaller) some of this can be detected by touching it but it does not affect the majesty of the painting. The Spell Caster
Description:
The Spell Caster is a warm, colourful autumn woodland path semi-abstract painting with barn owl. It is 30x30x1.5 inches. The painting is mostly orange and purple and though is clearly of woodland, it is built up with many transparent layers of rainbow colours and vertical marks and drips that give the painting the idea of it flickering in and out of a different reality. I find woodland magical and I find owls magical and I love autumn so this is the combination of those things. It was mostly inspired by some of areas of woodland around the Ashdown Forest in Sussex where you can go quite suddenly from a sunlight heathland into dark and sinister patches of dark forest. Spirited Away
Description:
Spirited Away is a semi-abstract explosion of a landscape showing daisies in a summer meadow. It is 40x40x1.5 inches. The daisies are seen in a meadow with trees behind them and a stag can be seen watching in the distance. He is ready to spirit away anyone who wants to follow him (a reference to the fact that deer are often seen as spiritual guides or messengers in more than one culture). There is a suggestion of a path that leads up to the trees. The colours are white, lilac, grey, yellows, orange and soft pinks.
