Summer Fading
Description:
Summer Fading is a golden green abstract landscape with a white egret beside a small river with pink wildflowers. It is 40x40x1.5 inches. A white egret can be seen on the left rising out of the hidden river she was fishing in. Behind her are pink riverside flowers and beyond those you can see the glow of a golden field and shimmering trees. In the foreground you can see abstracted lines of an emerald green field. This is an actual moment of time I painted recently where I came across a startled egret by a small river. You canât see the river because of the angle but you can see the bird stretching her wings to fly out of it. The background is a golden green which helps to give this sultry abstract landscape an end of the summer type feeling â hence the title. I like to capture moments of time in natureâs cycles and this is a tiny snapshot of a little drama I enjoyed. Dedicated to all the farmers and conservationists who plant wild flowers at the edges of their fields and beside rivers. The Spell Caster
Description:
The Spell Caster is a warm, colourful autumn woodland path semi-abstract painting with barn owl. It is 30x30x1.5 inches. The painting is mostly orange and purple and though is clearly of woodland, it is built up with many transparent layers of rainbow colours and vertical marks and drips that give the painting the idea of it flickering in and out of a different reality. I find woodland magical and I find owls magical and I love autumn so this is the combination of those things. It was mostly inspired by some of areas of woodland around the Ashdown Forest in Sussex where you can go quite suddenly from a sunlight heathland into dark and sinister patches of dark forest. Follow the Dream
Description:
A golden, vibrantly coloured panoramic oil painting of the path through an ancient woodland in autumn. 40x16x1.5 inches. The painting technique is blurred and impasto and has a golden glow to it that changes throughout the day depending on the light. This painting almost vibrates with the promise of good things around the next bend. The inspiration was lots of woodland walks taken in autumn in the East Sussex area where the paths through the trees are often well worn and very old. Many were droversâ paths used for herding animals and the echoes of the past are very strong in some of them. I tried to capture the feeling of anticipation and hope of revelation that I often get when around trees and ancient forests. The title refers to the idea that it is a good idea to dream and that you may find what you are looking for around the next bend⦠Dedicated to nature conservationists everywhere. Painted on 3D canvas. The Final Gift of Summer
Description:
The Final Gift of Summer is a beautifully mellow river bank painting with swallows and a tangle of wild flowers. It is a 30x30x1.5 inches. The style is semi abstract and composed of many overlapping transparent layers in full vibrant rainbow colours. To the left are the deep greens, blues, purples and turquoise of trees in shadow and behind them you can see the glittering sun in the bend of the river. To the right is a view across a mass of summer flowers and the hint of fields and trees and hills in the background with a single dwelling. Two swallows are dancing around on the left gathering insects ready for their long flight south. This painting was inspired by a walk one August day on the South Downs near the river Arun. The feeling was a little sad as I always miss the swallows when they leave. I tried to capture the gorgeous melancholy of the end of summer and there is a definite mood to this painting that hints of the end of something and the beginning of something new⦠Dedicated to all those people working to keep Sussex and its wildlife safe and beautiful. The Song of the Deer is a colourful semi abstract oil painting of a group of deer in an autumn wood. It is 40x30x1.5 inches. The painting shows a fallow deer buck next to a pine tree as he looks towards three female deer in a clearing to his left and above him. The painting is very colourful and has a slightly fairy tale feeling to it - there is clearly a story (or song) going on between the male and the female deer. The inspiration for the painting was a walk I took in Knole Park, Sevenoaks one autumn where there is a long grassy valley between heathland and forest where the deer can be heard calling to each other during breeding season. The stag in this painting is one I followed for a while up a slope through some ferns which were in full autumn mode of gold, orange and green. Behind him I could see a small bunch of females appearing and disappearing out of the forest and ferns and I felt happy to be witnessing a cycle of nature that is timeless and fascinating to see. Tiger in the Ether

Tiger in the Ether is a 40x40x1.5 inches purple oil painting of a semi-abstract art-nouveau style tiger against an abstract background. The style is slightly art nouveau and makes use of the complementary colours of purple with yellow and orange with blue which makes the colours very vibrant and almost mystical. The background hints at trees and light behind them but is quite abstract. The tiger herself has a pensive expression and looks kinder than most tigers. She appears to be dissolving into the ether (ether being a spiritual idea) and has sparkles of light or energy flowing out from her. In reality, tigers really are in danger of dissolving out of existence so the message is quite poignant. Divine Monarchs is a large semi-abstract wildlife painting of two deer
Description:
Divine Monarchs is a large semi-abstract wildlife painting of two deer in a bluebell wood in springtime. It is 48x48x1.5 inches. The painting was inspired by the months of April and May when the woodlands become carpeted in bluebells. I rarely spot deer in the forests as deer hide expertly, but in springtime it is easier to see them against the blues, lilacs and pinks of the flowers. I began the painting thinking to make a traditional portrait of a stag and a doe but found it impossible. Deer are just too ethereal and I am too inclined to try and capture the spirit of them rather than the anatomical accuracies - so this is what happened. The painting shimmers with the life and energy of the universe under trees and I have made the most of the interplay between sun and shade by contrasting the blue and lilacs of the shadows against the yellows, pinks and greens of the sun dappled scene. Description:
A Day in December is a large oil painting of a pheasant in a winter woodland. It is 40x40x1.5 inches. The painting is impressionistic, art nouveau and contemporary in style and is a capture of a day I spent in December last year in Friston Forest near Seaford. Autumn was very late and there were still leaves on the trees but the sun was very low so all kinds of interesting colours were circulating between warm and cold under the tree cover and this is what I wanted to catch. The pheasant is just a gorgeous twit who looked perfect in the composition as he contains the colours around him and is very much a part of the landscape. This particular part of the forest is a favourite of mine as still retains a faintly ethereal and magical quality.
