Autumns Veil
Description:
Autumnâs Veil is a semi-abstract autumn coloured landscape with 4 fallow deer bucks in a clearing in an orange forest. It is 36x36x1.5 inches. The painting focuses on the group of deer bucks who are standing in a bright woodland clearing. Above them are shimmering vertical lines of orange, yellow, gold, purple and magenta colours which suggest autumn trees and below them are the warm rich reds of the shadows below them. Behind them across the field there are more trees and bright light suggestion a sunset. This is a very textured painting which almost creates facets to it that change it throughout the day. Summer Fading
Description:
Summer Fading is a golden green abstract landscape with a white egret beside a small river with pink wildflowers. It is 40x40x1.5 inches. A white egret can be seen on the left rising out of the hidden river she was fishing in. Behind her are pink riverside flowers and beyond those you can see the glow of a golden field and shimmering trees. In the foreground you can see abstracted lines of an emerald green field. This is an actual moment of time I painted recently where I came across a startled egret by a small river. You canât see the river because of the angle but you can see the bird stretching her wings to fly out of it. The background is a golden green which helps to give this sultry abstract landscape an end of the summer type feeling â hence the title. I like to capture moments of time in natureâs cycles and this is a tiny snapshot of a little drama I enjoyed. Dedicated to all the farmers and conservationists who plant wild flowers at the edges of their fields and beside rivers. Chaos in the Meadow
Description:
Chaos in the Meadow is a joyful semi abstract oil painting illustrating the sheer chaos of nature that you find in a flower meadow in summer. It is 36x30x1.5 inches. The painting is semi abstract in style and is extremely colourful. Many different types of flower and grasses are hinted at and all of them are trying to get attention which causes a beautiful chaos. This painting was made after a walk on the Sussex South Downs and I love how this one tiny patch of wildflower meadow showed me so much life and enthusiasm. I have used layers and glazes of colours to give this painting an iridescent glow and its colours change throughout the day because of this - almost like stained glass. Behind the flowers you can just about see some of the fields below the hills looking towards Lewes. It is dedicated to all those walkers, cyclists and environmentalists that I meet on the downs who are helping to keep this area beautiful and its nature thriving. The Spell Caster
Description:
The Spell Caster is a warm, colourful autumn woodland path semi-abstract painting with barn owl. It is 30x30x1.5 inches. The painting is mostly orange and purple and though is clearly of woodland, it is built up with many transparent layers of rainbow colours and vertical marks and drips that give the painting the idea of it flickering in and out of a different reality. I find woodland magical and I find owls magical and I love autumn so this is the combination of those things. It was mostly inspired by some of areas of woodland around the Ashdown Forest in Sussex where you can go quite suddenly from a sunlight heathland into dark and sinister patches of dark forest. Spirited Away
Description:
Spirited Away is a semi-abstract explosion of a landscape showing daisies in a summer meadow. It is 40x40x1.5 inches. The daisies are seen in a meadow with trees behind them and a stag can be seen watching in the distance. He is ready to spirit away anyone who wants to follow him (a reference to the fact that deer are often seen as spiritual guides or messengers in more than one culture). There is a suggestion of a path that leads up to the trees. The colours are white, lilac, grey, yellows, orange and soft pinks. The landscape is bursting out from the centre of the painting in a joyous whoop of happy summer celebration as I tried to show the exuberance of summer and the way that nature splurges on the season. Natures Cathedral, an autumn landscape
Description:
Natures Cathedral is a very large golden oil painting of an autumn forest clearing. It is 60x36x1.5 inches. The painting shows the view into a clearing along an autumn path with a semi-transparent deer stag just visible on the left. The style is semi abstract and contains the full range of vibrant autumn colours but with a golden hue across them. There is also the hint of beams of light shining thought the trees at many different angles and that helps create a feeling of energy and something otherworldly. The painting was inspired by various woodland walks taken in the Sussex area and the odd glimpse of deer in them. I am sometimes struck by how woodland paths are almost spiritual in the feeling they give off â hence the name. Forests are natureâs cathedrals. You can often feel you are being observed in forests and I like the how different forests evoke different emotions. Some are welcoming, some are just barely tolerating your interruption and some are actually quite sinister. This painting is a big welcoming glowing forest. Follow the Dream
Description:
A golden, vibrantly coloured panoramic oil painting of the path through an ancient woodland in autumn. 40x16x1.5 inches. The painting technique is blurred and impasto and has a golden glow to it that changes throughout the day depending on the light. This painting almost vibrates with the promise of good things around the next bend. The inspiration was lots of woodland walks taken in autumn in the East Sussex area where the paths through the trees are often well worn and very old. Many were droversâ paths used for herding animals and the echoes of the past are very strong in some of them. I tried to capture the feeling of anticipation and hope of revelation that I often get when around trees and ancient forests. The title refers to the idea that it is a good idea to dream and that you may find what you are looking for around the next bend⦠Dedicated to nature conservationists everywhere. Painted on 3D canvas. Somewhere in an Autumn Clearing
Description:
This oil painting is 40x40x1.5 inches and shows a glowing autumn landscape with two swallows playing in a clearing. It is semi abstract in style and painted using techniques that allow the viewer a glimpse of a little magical universe. The energy and the drama of an autumn clearing and trees is shown in the flow lines and blurred edges and other whimsical flourishes. The colours range through purple, blue, magenta, orange and golden yellow. The two swallows are swooping and diving in a clearing beyond a tree on the left and a patch of golden green meadow and more trees beyond.
