Nature Weaves a Spell
Title: Nature Weaves a Spell
Description:
Nature Weaves a Spell is a very large oil on canvas painting in abstract vs realism style of kingfishers and by a river. It is 71x47x2 inches (181x120x5cms). Two kingfishers can be seen above the river which flows towards us from the left out of a lake. The female kingfisher is hovering and looks towards the male who is about to dive into the water. In the distance you can see hills and trees whilst in the foreground are the birds and an abundance of wildflowers on each side of the river. They hint at being the pink Himalayan Balsom plants you often see along English rivers and streams. Multiple layers of transparent rainbow paint have been used to reflect a myriad of glowing vibrant colours. The golden yellow layer looks as if it is ripping apart to reveal the landscape behind it. The kingfishers are painted in fine detail but with the motion of the wings being slightly blurred to show the energy and motion as well as the physical details of their anatomy. The interplay of abstract and realism gives this painting a magical, ethereal and spell binding quality. This painting is where I want to be! It was inspired by the occasional sightings of real kingfishers who look like tiny river jewels to me and by plenty of river walks in the countryside during the summertime. Every part of this painting has something interesting occurring in it :-) The canvas is an extra strong gallery quality aluminium frame one. The edges are wide meaning framing not necessary and the edges are painted dark green. It is ready to hang and comes with a certificate of authenticity from the artist.

Artist Biography:
Gill Bustamante is a professional artist based in East Sussex who creates large semi-abstract landscape, seascape and wildlife paintings in oil on canvas. Her painting style is very distinct and often fuses art-nouveau, impressionist and semi-abstract techniques with traditional portraiture that reflect her love of nature, animals, birds and the flora and fauna of the landscapes around her. She loves the ancient landscapes of England and her paintings often reflect the magical elements that such landscapes have. Gillâs main working method has been the development of a painting style she terms âmemory impressionismâ. This method involves going walking somewhere, looking at and absorbing the things she sees and experiences, and then returning home to her studio to try and capture an echo or essence of the place from memory - including any wildlife she may have seen. By this method, she captures precise moments in times at different seasons and the feeling she has about them. Gill completed a fine art degree in Brighton in 1983 and has painted since she was three. In her own words: âPainting always makes me happy along with cake, bunnies, driving erratically, BBC 6 music and totally irreverent comedyâ.
