Artist Biography:
I am a Figurative Artist with a speciality for Oil Portraits.
My style has gravitated towards a preference for narrative, often sensual figurative paintings mainly in Oil but I do also enjoy working with Pastels and Charcoal.
I moved to Cumbria in September 2006 to enjoy the rural tranquillity. I find that I am spurred on by the wild and ever changing nature of the countryside and do not miss any thing about my previous professional life as a Civil Engineer. I retired in 2003 following a motorcycle accident which left me paralysed and wheelchair bound. It turned a page in my life and encouraged by my partner Carol I started painting. It was a fantastic release for me, being something I took to straight away achieving sales and recognition at a very early stage. After exhibiting with the âInternational Guild of Artistsâ at Ilkley I was elected to be an associate member of the British Society of Painters in 2005. I have sold paintings at many group exhibitions but by far the greatest success is at joint exhibitions entitled âHis and Hersâ held with my partner Carol Brook both here and in Spain. One of my specialities is portraiture and I have undertaken numerous commissions.
As a self taught artist I have learnt by studying life and trying to mimic the methods of great artists both past and present. I feel humbled by my efforts so far but I hope that my paintings provide others with as much pleasure as I have had in their conception and I shall continue whilst ever I feel inspired to paint. If you are interested in seeing some of my portrait work please contact me at tedbid@aol.com . I can work from live sittings or from good photographs either of your own or I can take them if you'd rather. If you are interested in that special portrait either for yourself or as a gift for a loved one please contact me and you may be surprised how easy it is.
