Sky Born

Title: Sky Born
Description: Sky Born is a seascape painting on canvas that was inspired by the sea gulls, sea and sky at Seaford in Sussex. It is an original oil on canvas and is 30x40x1.5 inches. The painting shows a big sky with many layers of colour and clouds twisting around each other which gives the painting a sense of energy and movement. The sea is white with white sparkles. In the centre are three kittiwake sea gulls flying in harmony as birds often do. These birds live on a certain cliff in Seaford and are protected. I have spent many happy hours with my head hanging over the cliff top watching the gulls and enjoying the rolling clouds and sparkling sea. I hope this painting conveys the joy that a cliff top walk can bring. To see this for yourself, go to Postcode BN25 1BW. It is on deep edge canvas with white edges, no frame needed, ready to hang

Artist Biography:

I am a Sussex based artist who paints large original landscape paintings and seascape paintings in oil on canvas.

My art is painted mostly from memory after having visited somewhere beautiful and are an attempt to capture some of the essence of that place.

I gained a fine art degree from Brighton in 1983 and began my painting career as a portraitist and muralist. However, sometime in the late 90s, after painting my 200th labrador, I realised I was crushingly bored and needed to develop my own painting style and began to paint landscapes and seascapes for my own amusement.

I am inspired by the patterns and movements of nature and animals and eventually developed a painting style that combines traditional painting techniques with more abstract and contemporary techniques.

My artworks evolve from simple ideas, usually after I have taken a walk somewhere. They are expressionistic, impressionist, art deco, art nouveau and something possibly unique to me in the feeling they evoke.

I like to think that paintings have little souls woven into them by artists and that these are what call to a viewer (or not as the case may be) and give a painting presence and desirability.

My goal is to one day paint a place so beautiful I will disappear into it and never be seen again and to create worlds where others can do the same even if only for a little while.
