Slow Start to the Morning
I love these old Thames Barges, they may be flat bottomed but they are so graceful in the water. This one was on a layover at Keyhaven on her way for a refurb further down the coast, so my daughter and I paddle-boarded out to take hundreds of photos. She didn't have a mast or sails so I had to find references for them elsewhere. She also had no bowsprit which I think probably means she was racing since the 1960s when they were deemed unbalancing and unsafe! She was just so beautiful that I had painted her fully refurbished and graceful in the water, so tranquil and gentle. This is an acrylic canvas, painted around the wrap, measuring 30" x 23" which really makes it a really impressive painting on the wall.
The Yacht, The Moon and The Lovers
Can you just imagine it? One of those journeys that you've both been planning for years, and after a great days sailing, you throw out the anchor to watch the sun go down and then the moon rise. A bottle of wine cooling in the ocean on a length of string and just the two of you, quiet, relaxed and in love. I adore painting the moon and love the reflections it makes on the ocean. It's an acrylic painting on canvas, painted around the wrap. It's 60cm x 80cm and looks incredibly impressive in even a big room. People say it wouldn't go in a small room but it was 'stored' on my tiny little house's wall between exhibitions and looked really great, so don't be put off by thinking it wont fit. Most artists will always understand if you really hate it on your own walls, I know I do and I would always refund the cost of the artwork if you felt it wasn't right.
Butterflies, Bugs and Bees
This ones a real puzzle, can you spot three red admiral butterflies, three dorset blues and three peacock butterflies, along with four bumble bees and seven ladybirds. All the flowers and insects in the painting are listed on the back, all colour coded for fun - you'll have hours of frustration - sorry no - I mean fun searching for them all. I'm an illustrator by heart and I just love to add in all the little details, each of the lady birds have a tiny black head and two tiny black spots, the bees each have three bands! I use a small brush which I've plucked even smaller, it has about three hairs left, just enough to hold a minute amount of paint by osmosis! My eyesight is rubbish after this but I just love doing them.
Wild White Horses
The sea is so blue, the wave magnificent, foaming and rushing to a perfect curve and was that?.... did you see?... was that horses galloping through? This beautifully still image invites you in to sit a while and contemplate the calm around it, the peace of the view. Its the sort of place you could meditate or take a romantic picnic. I adored painting this one as I drew together lots of my resources into one image, the mountains in the background are from my photos of the Lakedistrict, the middle trees, reflections and lake are from my beloved painting trips to Virginia Waters and the foreground is my home in Mudeford oh and the rocks they are miniature versions of the Elephant rocks in Minnesota!
