It depicts the beautiful firey autumn Highland colours, with the sun shining hazily through the foliage and casting intersting shapes and shadows on the ground before you.
The truck of the Silver Birch tree visible in the foreground is painted impasto to give a realistic texture to the bark, and the bark continues around the edge of the painting to give the tree a 3D effect when viewed from the side....and adds to the overall depth of the painting.
