The Truth is Out There

Title: The Truth is Out There
Description: The Truth is Out There is a 48x36x1.5 inches large oil painting of a rainbow-coloured woodland path with a small deer watching from the trees. The style is semi abstract, expressionist and messy art nouveau. It was made by building up layers of paint that give the appearance of stained glass as some are transparent. It makes the scene a little ambiguous as if two or three universes are overlapping each-other. The path winds up from the viewer towards the light through the trees at the end of the path. The trees are shades of pink, orange, gold, blue, purple and green. A small female deer stands to one side observing. She knows what is on the other side of the forest. The mood of this painting is one of hope and optimism about the future. It captures the feeling I often get when walking in woodland that nature and the animals in the forests know something I don’t know and that if I just keep walking, I may find something wonderful around the next bend (and sometimes I do!) It is called what it is because I loved the TV series ‘The X-files’ and can hear the music when I look at this painting! Dedicated to everyone who has used the enforced restrictions of the pandemic to find new ways to help nature and their fellow man. Painted on deep edge canvas, white edges, ready to hang, no frame needed

Artist Biography:

I am a Sussex based artist who paints large original landscape paintings and seascape paintings in oil on canvas.

My art is painted mostly from memory after having visited somewhere beautiful and are an attempt to capture some of the essence of that place.

I gained a fine art degree from Brighton in 1983 and began my painting career as a portraitist and muralist. However, sometime in the late 90s, after painting my 200th labrador, I realised I was crushingly bored and needed to develop my own painting style and began to paint landscapes and seascapes for my own amusement.

I am inspired by the patterns and movements of nature and animals and eventually developed a painting style that combines traditional painting techniques with more abstract and contemporary techniques.

My artworks evolve from simple ideas, usually after I have taken a walk somewhere. They are expressionistic, impressionist, art deco, art nouveau and something possibly unique to me in the feeling they evoke.

I like to think that paintings have little souls woven into them by artists and that these are what call to a viewer (or not as the case may be) and give a painting presence and desirability.

My goal is to one day paint a place so beautiful I will disappear into it and never be seen again and to create worlds where others can do the same even if only for a little while.
