November Glowing

Title: November Glowing
Description: November Glowing is a large oil on canvas painting of a glowing autumn Sussex landscape with a deer stag among the trees. (36x48x1.5 inches). It is very colourful and vibrant and messy art nouveau expressionist in style. It was inspired by my memory of view from the back of the church yard in Burwash, East Sussex, during November of 2020. The trees still had some autumn leaves on them and the ground was wet and glistening. The fields glowed green and the small hills and vales between them where full of little streams. I spent 4 hours wandering about in the mud with low angled November sun rays blinding me. It sounds unpleasant but was in fact absolutely glorious. The edges of the painting have been deliberately blurred which helps direct the attention into the scene better. A stag stands between two trees considering his domain. This painting makes me happy. It reminds me of a beautiful place and beautiful day. It is dedicated to all the people who live in and around and take care of the landscapes of Burwash (Rudyard Kipling country). It is ready to hang, white edged deep edge canvas, ready to hang.

Artist Biography:

I am a Sussex based artist who paints large original landscape paintings and seascape paintings in oil on canvas.

My art is painted mostly from memory after having visited somewhere beautiful and are an attempt to capture some of the essence of that place.

I gained a fine art degree from Brighton in 1983 and began my painting career as a portraitist and muralist. However, sometime in the late 90s, after painting my 200th labrador, I realised I was crushingly bored and needed to develop my own painting style and began to paint landscapes and seascapes for my own amusement.

I am inspired by the patterns and movements of nature and animals and eventually developed a painting style that combines traditional painting techniques with more abstract and contemporary techniques.

My artworks evolve from simple ideas, usually after I have taken a walk somewhere. They are expressionistic, impressionist, art deco, art nouveau and something possibly unique to me in the feeling they evoke.

I like to think that paintings have little souls woven into them by artists and that these are what call to a viewer (or not as the case may be) and give a painting presence and desirability.

My goal is to one day paint a place so beautiful I will disappear into it and never be seen again and to create worlds where others can do the same even if only for a little while.
