Celebration

Title: Celebration
Description: Celebration is an oil painting 30x48x1.5 inches of some white daises in a summer meadow at the end of a summer evening. The landscape behind the flowers shows a glowing multicoloured field with trees in the background and a golden evening light shines behind them. The daisies are painted in thick generous impasto paint with art nouveau type shapes and patterns. Spots of light or pollen rise up from the centre of the dailies as if rising to the sky. The whole scene is glowing with a golden light that is reminiscent of the last rays of the sun setting in summertime. It is called celebration because flowers mark the seasons very well and summer is time that really feels like a celebration of life. It is Painted on deep edge canvas, white edges, no frame needed, ready to hang

Artist Biography:

I am a Sussex based artist who paints large original landscape paintings and seascape paintings in oil on canvas.

My art is painted mostly from memory after having visited somewhere beautiful and are an attempt to capture some of the essence of that place.

I gained a fine art degree from Brighton in 1983 and began my painting career as a portraitist and muralist. However, sometime in the late 90s, after painting my 200th labrador, I realised I was crushingly bored and needed to develop my own painting style and began to paint landscapes and seascapes for my own amusement.

I am inspired by the patterns and movements of nature and animals and eventually developed a painting style that combines traditional painting techniques with more abstract and contemporary techniques.

My artworks evolve from simple ideas, usually after I have taken a walk somewhere. They are expressionistic, impressionist, art deco, art nouveau and something possibly unique to me in the feeling they evoke.

I like to think that paintings have little souls woven into them by artists and that these are what call to a viewer (or not as the case may be) and give a painting presence and desirability.

My goal is to one day paint a place so beautiful I will disappear into it and never be seen again and to create worlds where others can do the same even if only for a little while.
