Tiger Soul

Title: Tiger Soul
Description: Tiger Soul is a large original oil on canvas painting of a tiger materialising in a golden forest. It is 40x40x1.5 inches on a deep edge canvas which does not need a frame. The ethereal tiger herself is lying along a tree limb and looking back at the viewer in a friendly way. Her head is well defined and sparkles are coming together to form it whilst her body is not yet formed and is transparent like chiffon. To the left is a white moon seen through trees with a golden evening light behind them. The main colours are gold, purple and magenta with plenty of white highlights to represent the light coming through the trees. The inspiration for painting it is a simple one. Tigers are in trouble and here is a world in which one of them at least can exist or not exist at her own choice. Dedicated to all those who are helping to keep this lovely animal alive and thriving.

Artist Biography:

I am a Sussex based artist who paints large original landscape paintings and seascape paintings in oil on canvas.

My art is painted mostly from memory after having visited somewhere beautiful and are an attempt to capture some of the essence of that place.

I gained a fine art degree from Brighton in 1983 and began my painting career as a portraitist and muralist. However, sometime in the late 90s, after painting my 200th labrador, I realised I was crushingly bored and needed to develop my own painting style and began to paint landscapes and seascapes for my own amusement.

I am inspired by the patterns and movements of nature and animals and eventually developed a painting style that combines traditional painting techniques with more abstract and contemporary techniques.

My artworks evolve from simple ideas, usually after I have taken a walk somewhere. They are expressionistic, impressionist, art deco, art nouveau and something possibly unique to me in the feeling they evoke.

I like to think that paintings have little souls woven into them by artists and that these are what call to a viewer (or not as the case may be) and give a painting presence and desirability.

My goal is to one day paint a place so beautiful I will disappear into it and never be seen again and to create worlds where others can do the same even if only for a little while.
