Kingfisher Romance

Title: Kingfisher Romance
Description: King Fisher Romance is a large contemporary landscape oil painting of two kingfishers flying along a river. It is 36x60x1.5 inches with white edges, ready to hang. From the right, a female kingfisher flies towards a male who is rising out of the river to meet her. There are trees and golden light emanating through the trees on the opposite bank and lots of wildflowers with sinuous art nouveau style lines and shapes. It is semi abstract and extremely vibrant in colour. The inspiration for the painting was a kingfisher I saw along the riverbank at Fordcombe near Tunbridge Wells this summer. It was only the second one I have seen and it is like seeing a feathered jewel. The river is quite narrow and almost hard to see in places when the summer reeds and flowers line the banks. River walks are a common inspiration for me as they are timeless and quite magical if you find the right places. If you want to see the spot, go to postcode TN3 0SP and walk east along the river

Artist Biography:

I am a Sussex based artist who paints large original landscape paintings and seascape paintings in oil on canvas.

My art is painted mostly from memory after having visited somewhere beautiful and are an attempt to capture some of the essence of that place.

I gained a fine art degree from Brighton in 1983 and began my painting career as a portraitist and muralist. However, sometime in the late 90s, after painting my 200th labrador, I realised I was crushingly bored and needed to develop my own painting style and began to paint landscapes and seascapes for my own amusement.

I am inspired by the patterns and movements of nature and animals and eventually developed a painting style that combines traditional painting techniques with more abstract and contemporary techniques.

My artworks evolve from simple ideas, usually after I have taken a walk somewhere. They are expressionistic, impressionist, art deco, art nouveau and something possibly unique to me in the feeling they evoke.

I like to think that paintings have little souls woven into them by artists and that these are what call to a viewer (or not as the case may be) and give a painting presence and desirability.

My goal is to one day paint a place so beautiful I will disappear into it and never be seen again and to create worlds where others can do the same even if only for a little while.
