Title: Freedom
Description: Freedom is a 30 x 24 x 0.5 inches oil painting on canvas showing a lone seagull gliding over a calm blue sparkling sea. The ocean is tranquil and the gull is in no hurry. Behind her, the sea glows white towards the horizon which is lost in a white haze. Light sparkles show on the peaks of the turquoise blue waves. I painted this because I wanted something calming and serene and find it represents freedom for me. I also painted it during the hot summer days of July and really wanted to be on holiday so it became a substitute :-) It had to be a lone gull because I am a fan of Jonathan Livingston Seagull by Richard Bach. The painting is ready to hang, white edges, frame recommended but not essential

Artist Biography:

I am a Sussex based artist who paints large original landscape paintings and seascape paintings in oil on canvas.

My art is painted mostly from memory after having visited somewhere beautiful and are an attempt to capture some of the essence of that place.

I gained a fine art degree from Brighton in 1983 and began my painting career as a portraitist and muralist. However, sometime in the late 90s, after painting my 200th labrador, I realised I was crushingly bored and needed to develop my own painting style and began to paint landscapes and seascapes for my own amusement.

I am inspired by the patterns and movements of nature and animals and eventually developed a painting style that combines traditional painting techniques with more abstract and contemporary techniques.

My artworks evolve from simple ideas, usually after I have taken a walk somewhere. They are expressionistic, impressionist, art deco, art nouveau and something possibly unique to me in the feeling they evoke.

I like to think that paintings have little souls woven into them by artists and that these are what call to a viewer (or not as the case may be) and give a painting presence and desirability.

My goal is to one day paint a place so beautiful I will disappear into it and never be seen again and to create worlds where others can do the same even if only for a little while.
