Summer Time-warp - a green landscape painting

Title: Summer Time-warp - a green landscape painting
Description: 30 x 30 x 1.5 inches semi abstract green painting of a lake, trees, pink wildflowers and a red bird. This painting gives an impression of a lake glittering through trees in summer with willowy pink and red flowers in front of us in the foreground. It shimmers and blurs and is is abstract but also very obvious in what it depicts. A red cardinal bird flies across the scene making a perfect contrast to the green of the landscape. It was inspired by a walk I had around Bewl lake in Kent. It is an impression of a perfect summer day. It is green and luscious and full of possibilities that are impressionistic and expressionistic and a little art nouveau. Painted on deep edge canvas - edges white, no frame needed.

Artist Biography:

I am a Sussex based artist who paints large original landscape paintings and seascape paintings in oil on canvas.

My art is painted mostly from memory after having visited somewhere beautiful and are an attempt to capture some of the essence of that place.

I gained a fine art degree from Brighton in 1983 and began my painting career as a portraitist and muralist. However, sometime in the late 90’s, after painting my 200th labrador, I realised I was crushingly bored and needed to develop my own painting style and began to paint landscapes and seascapes for my own amusement.

I am inspired by the patterns and movements of nature and animals and eventually developed a painting style that combines traditional painting techniques with more abstract and contemporary techniques.

My artworks evolve from simple ideas, usually after I have taken a walk somewhere. They are expressionistic, impressionist, art deco, art nouveau and something possibly unique to me in the feeling they evoke.

I like to think that paintings have ‘little souls’ woven into them by artist’s and that these are what call to a viewer (or not as the case may be) and give a painting presence and desirability.

My goal is to one day paint a place so beautiful I will disappear into it and never be seen again and to create worlds where others can do the same – even if only for a little while.
