White Hart Song large art nouveau landscape with white deer

Title: White Hart Song large art nouveau landscape with white deer
Description: 40 x 40 x 1.5 large original painting on canvas of two white deer in an enchanted landscape. The white hart stands looking up at a white female deer who in turn stands staring at the viewer. We have interrupted their serenading and she is not happy. The style of the painting is art nouveau, semi abstract and hints at autumn trees, a lake or waterfall and is both delicate and bold in the brush strokes used. The albino stag can be found in the British wildlife centre in where I stalked him for a few hours to sketch and photograph him. Deer are quite ethereal and a white deer even more so. The inspiration for the painting was simply to paint some white deer and give them a place to play. Painted on deep edge canvas - edges white, no frame needed.

Artist Biography:

I am a Sussex based artist who paints large original landscape paintings and seascape paintings in oil on canvas.

My art is painted mostly from memory after having visited somewhere beautiful and are an attempt to capture some of the essence of that place.

I gained a fine art degree from Brighton in 1983 and began my painting career as a portraitist and muralist. However, sometime in the late 90’s, after painting my 200th labrador, I realised I was crushingly bored and needed to develop my own painting style and began to paint landscapes and seascapes for my own amusement.

I am inspired by the patterns and movements of nature and animals and eventually developed a painting style that combines traditional painting techniques with more abstract and contemporary techniques.

My artworks evolve from simple ideas, usually after I have taken a walk somewhere. They are expressionistic, impressionist, art deco, art nouveau and something possibly unique to me in the feeling they evoke.

I like to think that paintings have ‘little souls’ woven into them by artist’s and that these are what call to a viewer (or not as the case may be) and give a painting presence and desirability.

My goal is to one day paint a place so beautiful I will disappear into it and never be seen again and to create worlds where others can do the same – even if only for a little while.
