Golden Forest Hidden Unicorn - LARGE ORIGINAL Oil Painting by Gill Bus

Title: Golden Forest Hidden Unicorn - LARGE ORIGINAL Oil Painting by Gill Bus
Description: A large 36 x 48 x 1.5 inches semi abstract landscape painting of a magical golden tinged forest. This painting is art nouveau and abstract in style and shows a view though trees to the light behind them. The trees are golden, green, lilac and wine coloured. Hidden between two of them is a small white horse who looks back over her shoulder at us, wondering if we will follow. I walk alot in forests and they fascinate me as they scare me but intrigue me at the same time. There is a different atmosphere in any forest or woodland you enter and I often feel I am being watched in them. Probably because I am. Usually by deer or birds but sometimes perhaps by something more magical. The painting was made with thick and blended paint and was glazed with golden yellow once dry to give the effect of sunlight. Painted on deep edge canvas, white edges, no frame needed.

Artist Biography:

I am a Sussex based artist who paints large original landscape paintings and seascape paintings in oil on canvas.

My art is painted mostly from memory after having visited somewhere beautiful and are an attempt to capture some of the essence of that place.

I gained a fine art degree from Brighton in 1983 and began my painting career as a portraitist and muralist. However, sometime in the late 90’s, after painting my 200th labrador, I realised I was crushingly bored and needed to develop my own painting style and began to paint landscapes and seascapes for my own amusement.

I am inspired by the patterns and movements of nature and animals and eventually developed a painting style that combines traditional painting techniques with more abstract and contemporary techniques.

My artworks evolve from simple ideas, usually after I have taken a walk somewhere. They are expressionistic, impressionist, art deco, art nouveau and something possibly unique to me in the feeling they evoke.

I like to think that paintings have ‘little souls’ woven into them by artist’s and that these are what call to a viewer (or not as the case may be) and give a painting presence and desirability.

My goal is to one day paint a place so beautiful I will disappear into it and never be seen again and to create worlds where others can do the same – even if only for a little while.
