Summer Roaring - a summer abstract landscape

Title: Summer Roaring - a summer abstract landscape
Description: A large 36 x 48 x 1.5 inches semi abstract landscape painting of an English flower meadow. This painting shows a view across red poppies, buttercups and wildflowers. A path goes though them towards a gap in the trees behind them. It is an expression of the allure that countryside walking has where you always wonder what is in the next field or beyond the woodland. The flowers and trees are abstract in style but give the idea of summer flowers and grasses in all their enthusiasm to grow and seed as fast as they can. I tried to sum up meadow walking in this painting and in abstract style as it sits in my memory like that rather than botanically accurate details. It is another in a long series of my 'memory impressionism' paintings. Painted on deep edge canvas, white edges, no frame needed.

Artist Biography:

I am a Sussex based artist who paints large original landscape paintings and seascape paintings in oil on canvas.

My art is painted mostly from memory after having visited somewhere beautiful and are an attempt to capture some of the essence of that place.

I gained a fine art degree from Brighton in 1983 and began my painting career as a portraitist and muralist. However, sometime in the late 90’s, after painting my 200th labrador, I realised I was crushingly bored and needed to develop my own painting style and began to paint landscapes and seascapes for my own amusement.

I am inspired by the patterns and movements of nature and animals and eventually developed a painting style that combines traditional painting techniques with more abstract and contemporary techniques.

My artworks evolve from simple ideas, usually after I have taken a walk somewhere. They are expressionistic, impressionist, art deco, art nouveau and something possibly unique to me in the feeling they evoke.

I like to think that paintings have ‘little souls’ woven into them by artist’s and that these are what call to a viewer (or not as the case may be) and give a painting presence and desirability.

My goal is to one day paint a place so beautiful I will disappear into it and never be seen again and to create worlds where others can do the same – even if only for a little while.
