June Melody - A Sussex Meadow in June

Title: June Melody - A Sussex Meadow in June
Description: 40 x 40 x 1.5 inches large original semi abstract oil painting of a Meadow in June in England. This painting spans over a hazy English meadow. There are wildflowers and distant trees and the hint of a stream running through the field. The flowers, birds and insects are singing to the season - hence the name. I painted it after a walk through a meadow like this near Lamberhurst in Kent. I used thick paint, wet into wet technique and with many different brushes to get the impression of wildflowers and foliage but without getting too botanical. It is a memory impression of that place and that day and I am very pleased with the mood it conveys with nature in all its enthusiasm. Painted on deep edge canvas - edges white, no frame needed.

Artist Biography:

I am a Sussex based artist who paints large original landscape paintings and seascape paintings in oil on canvas.

My art is painted mostly from memory after having visited somewhere beautiful and are an attempt to capture some of the essence of that place.

I gained a fine art degree from Brighton in 1983 and began my painting career as a portraitist and muralist. However, sometime in the late 90’s, after painting my 200th labrador, I realised I was crushingly bored and needed to develop my own painting style and began to paint landscapes and seascapes for my own amusement.

I am inspired by the patterns and movements of nature and animals and eventually developed a painting style that combines traditional painting techniques with more abstract and contemporary techniques.

My artworks evolve from simple ideas, usually after I have taken a walk somewhere. They are expressionistic, impressionist, art deco, art nouveau and something possibly unique to me in the feeling they evoke.

I like to think that paintings have ‘little souls’ woven into them by artist’s and that these are what call to a viewer (or not as the case may be) and give a painting presence and desirability.

My goal is to one day paint a place so beautiful I will disappear into it and never be seen again and to create worlds where others can do the same – even if only for a little while.
