White Hart Symphony - an abstract landscape with deer

Title: White Hart Symphony - an abstract landscape with deer
Description: 40 x 40 x 1.5 inches large original semi abstract oil painting of a white hart (white stag over 6 years old) in a winter forest. The stag is painted in an abstract style and stands looking back at us in a forest that hints of snow and winter and birch trees. The colours range from golden yellow to purples, orange and pinks. This painting was an experiment as I wanted to see what would happen if I did not paint in layers as I usually do. Instead I painted it 'wet into wet' style by keeping the paint wet with lots of linseed oil. This meant I finished faster than usual and can therefore offer at a lower price than my usual metre by metre wide paintings. It is on deep edge canvas, white edges, frame not necessary.

Artist Biography:

I am a Sussex based artist who paints large original landscape paintings and seascape paintings in oil on canvas.

My art is painted mostly from memory after having visited somewhere beautiful and are an attempt to capture some of the essence of that place.

I gained a fine art degree from Brighton in 1983 and began my painting career as a portraitist and muralist. However, sometime in the late 90’s, after painting my 200th labrador, I realised I was crushingly bored and needed to develop my own painting style and began to paint landscapes and seascapes for my own amusement.

I am inspired by the patterns and movements of nature and animals and eventually developed a painting style that combines traditional painting techniques with more abstract and contemporary techniques.

My artworks evolve from simple ideas, usually after I have taken a walk somewhere. They are expressionistic, impressionist, art deco, art nouveau and something possibly unique to me in the feeling they evoke.

I like to think that paintings have ‘little souls’ woven into them by artist’s and that these are what call to a viewer (or not as the case may be) and give a painting presence and desirability.

My goal is to one day paint a place so beautiful I will disappear into it and never be seen again and to create worlds where others can do the same – even if only for a little while.
