Ten Orange fish under the sea

Title: Ten Orange fish under the sea
Description: 40 x 40 x 1.5 inches large blue painting of an underwater seascape with ten flame orange fish swimming along the sea bed. The ocean water is blue and turquoise and the light shines through the surface of the water making sparkles and patterns that are then reflected onto the sandy shore. I like to use primary colours with their complement's - in this case orange and blue and this is why the fish had to be orange. It is another in a series of large seascapes with fish that I have been painting since a Caribbean holiday I had a few years ago. I snorkled a lot and I fell in love with the undersea wonders I saw. This painting is on deep edge canvas, white edges, no frame necessary.

Artist Biography:

I am a Sussex based artist who paints large original landscape paintings and seascape paintings in oil on canvas.

My art is painted mostly from memory after having visited somewhere beautiful and are an attempt to capture some of the essence of that place.

I gained a fine art degree from Brighton in 1983 and began my painting career as a portraitist and muralist. However, sometime in the late 90’s, after painting my 200th labrador, I realised I was crushingly bored and needed to develop my own painting style and began to paint landscapes and seascapes for my own amusement.

I am inspired by the patterns and movements of nature and animals and eventually developed a painting style that combines traditional painting techniques with more abstract and contemporary techniques.

My artworks evolve from simple ideas, usually after I have taken a walk somewhere. They are expressionistic, impressionist, art deco, art nouveau and something possibly unique to me in the feeling they evoke.

I like to think that paintings have ‘little souls’ woven into them by artist’s and that these are what call to a viewer (or not as the case may be) and give a painting presence and desirability.

My goal is to one day paint a place so beautiful I will disappear into it and never be seen again and to create worlds where others can do the same – even if only for a little while.
