Frost King - a red deer in a frosty forest - art nouveau style

Title: Frost King - a red deer in a frosty forest - art nouveau style
Description: 40 x 40 x 1.5 inches original oil painting of a red deer stag standing in clearing in a forest in winter. It is painted in thick paint in an art nouveau, expressionist and quite decorative style. The colours are warm pinks, lilacs, reds and Indian yellow but are muted by the white paint which makes the scene a winter frosty landscape. The stag stares at us imperiously, as deer do, as he wonders what we are doing crunching through the forest of his white world. Inspired by recent walk (Dec 2017) in several frosty forest's in East Sussex. Painted on deep edge canvas - edges white, no frame needed.

Artist Biography:

I am a Sussex based artist who paints large original landscape paintings and seascape paintings in oil on canvas.

My art is painted mostly from memory after having visited somewhere beautiful and are an attempt to capture some of the essence of that place.

I gained a fine art degree from Brighton in 1983 and began my painting career as a portraitist and muralist. However, sometime in the late 90’s, after painting my 200th labrador, I realised I was crushingly bored and needed to develop my own painting style and began to paint landscapes and seascapes for my own amusement.

I am inspired by the patterns and movements of nature and animals and eventually developed a painting style that combines traditional painting techniques with more abstract and contemporary techniques.

My artworks evolve from simple ideas, usually after I have taken a walk somewhere. They are expressionistic, impressionist, art deco, art nouveau and something possibly unique to me in the feeling they evoke.

I like to think that paintings have ‘little souls’ woven into them by artist’s and that these are what call to a viewer (or not as the case may be) and give a painting presence and desirability.

My goal is to one day paint a place so beautiful I will disappear into it and never be seen again and to create worlds where others can do the same – even if only for a little while.
