Nature Calls - a large autumn landscape with stag

Title: Nature Calls - a large autumn landscape with stag
Description: A 36 x 48 x 1.5 inches large semi abstract original oil painting of an autumn forest with a stag. Have you ever walked in a forest and felt energized by the feeling of mystery or promise of revelation that it can induce?. The sound of birds, the smell of the moss and leaves, a glimpse of a deer or fox are all timeless experiences - especially in autumn when the sun is low and shafts of light shine though the trees making dappled patches of light on the path. I tried to capture this feeling with this painting. The revelation, whatever it is, is at the other side of the forest... Deep edge canvas, white edges, no frame needed.

Artist Biography:

I am a Sussex based artist who paints large original landscape paintings and seascape paintings in oil on canvas.

My art is painted mostly from memory after having visited somewhere beautiful and are an attempt to capture some of the essence of that place.

I gained a fine art degree from Brighton in 1983 and began my painting career as a portraitist and muralist. However, sometime in the late 90’s, after painting my 200th labrador, I realised I was crushingly bored and needed to develop my own painting style and began to paint landscapes and seascapes for my own amusement.

I am inspired by the patterns and movements of nature and animals and eventually developed a painting style that combines traditional painting techniques with more abstract and contemporary techniques.

My artworks evolve from simple ideas, usually after I have taken a walk somewhere. They are expressionistic, impressionist, art deco, art nouveau and something possibly unique to me in the feeling they evoke.

I like to think that paintings have ‘little souls’ woven into them by artist’s and that these are what call to a viewer (or not as the case may be) and give a painting presence and desirability.

My goal is to one day paint a place so beautiful I will disappear into it and never be seen again and to create worlds where others can do the same – even if only for a little while.
