Watchers in the Ice Forest - misty landscape with deer

Title: Watchers in the Ice Forest - misty landscape with deer
Description: A large 36 x 48 x 1.5 inches semi abstract original oil painting of deer at dawn in a misty forest. A long row of deer stand across a river looking at us out of the trees. It is semi abstract and slight art nouveau in style and is painted in autumn winter dawn colours of peach, yellow's, white and violet grey. The sun glows through the mist low above the forest tree line. It is icy with frost and early morning thaw makes a mist. The deer know something we don't so they simply wait and watch us. Inspired by a morning walk in the Ashdown forest in autumn. Shiny finish, deep edge canvas, edges white, frame not needed.

Artist Biography:

I am a Sussex based artist who paints large original landscape paintings and seascape paintings in oil on canvas.

My art is painted mostly from memory after having visited somewhere beautiful and are an attempt to capture some of the essence of that place.

I gained a fine art degree from Brighton in 1983 and began my painting career as a portraitist and muralist. However, sometime in the late 90’s, after painting my 200th labrador, I realised I was crushingly bored and needed to develop my own painting style and began to paint landscapes and seascapes for my own amusement.

I am inspired by the patterns and movements of nature and animals and eventually developed a painting style that combines traditional painting techniques with more abstract and contemporary techniques.

My artworks evolve from simple ideas, usually after I have taken a walk somewhere. They are expressionistic, impressionist, art deco, art nouveau and something possibly unique to me in the feeling they evoke.

I like to think that paintings have ‘little souls’ woven into them by artist’s and that these are what call to a viewer (or not as the case may be) and give a painting presence and desirability.

My goal is to one day paint a place so beautiful I will disappear into it and never be seen again and to create worlds where others can do the same – even if only for a little while.
