Revelation - a path through an autumn wood

Title: Revelation - a path through an autumn wood
Description: 40 x 40 x 1.5 inches large original oil painting of a path through an autumn wood. Three female deer and one stag watch from the right as the light beckons though the trees. It promises a discovery of some kind. The style is slightly art nouveau, semi abstract and is painted to give a blurred out of focus effect. This path through a forest is a persistent theme for me as I walk often in woodland like this. And when I do, I am forever feeling like I will discover something magical just around the next bend. The trees whisper it, the sunlight hints at it, the deer lead to it. Maybe one day I will find it (whatever it is!)

Artist Biography:

I am a Sussex based artist who paints large original landscape paintings and seascape paintings in oil on canvas.

My art is painted mostly from memory after having visited somewhere beautiful and are an attempt to capture some of the essence of that place.

I gained a fine art degree from Brighton in 1983 and began my painting career as a portraitist and muralist. However, sometime in the late 90’s, after painting my 200th labrador, I realised I was crushingly bored and needed to develop my own painting style and began to paint landscapes and seascapes for my own amusement.

I am inspired by the patterns and movements of nature and animals and eventually developed a painting style that combines traditional painting techniques with more abstract and contemporary techniques.

My artworks evolve from simple ideas, usually after I have taken a walk somewhere. They are expressionistic, impressionist, art deco, art nouveau and something possibly unique to me in the feeling they evoke.

I like to think that paintings have ‘little souls’ woven into them by artist’s and that these are what call to a viewer (or not as the case may be) and give a painting presence and desirability.

My goal is to one day paint a place so beautiful I will disappear into it and never be seen again and to create worlds where others can do the same – even if only for a little while.
