A Beautiful Truth - an abstract Winter landscape with swallows

Title: A Beautiful Truth - an abstract Winter landscape with swallows
Description: A large 48 x 36 x 1.5 inches original oil painting on canvas of a winter landscape. It is semi-abstract in style and painted in hues of violet, pink, orange and yellow. Two swallows fly over a a shimmering, misty lake. The refection of the rising sun can be seen through the trees and in the water. It was inspired by a walk I took in December near Ardingly in Sussex. I was trying to show that, although not as colourful as the other seasons, winter can be very beautiful and that nature and the seasons go relentlessly though their cycles regardless of what humans are doing and that a good way to stay sane is simply to walk and observe this. Nature is endlessly fascinating.

Artist Biography:

I paint large original oil paintings on canvas which are heavily inspired by Sussex, England. My subjects are modern contemporary landscapes, seascape paintings and animal paintings in an Expressionist, gestural style using thick oil paint.

On my website you will see paintings about Sussex meadows, woodland paths, English landscapes and seascapes. Each one has its own unique story. Most of my artworks are about hope, frustration, optimism, a bit of mystery and a feeling that things will get better and that there is a place somewhere in the universe that is perfect. I like to think I am painting art that assists the viewer to get what they want. I hope this works for you.

I like expressionist paintings and impressionist paintings and have developed a painting style that sits between these two. I have paintings for sale at my home studio and online art galleries. As a child, I taught myself to draw and paint by copying animals and horses out of books on an almost daily basis then in 1979 I did a foundation course at Chelsea and then a degree course at Brighton where I graduated in 1982 with a fine art degree in sculpture. I then worked in a studio on the seafront for a while making sculptures with an architect for clubs and hotels. On moving to East Grinstead in the late 80's, I began painting for an art agent that specialized in animal, people and bespoke portraits and soon became skilled at painting dogs and horses in a classical style. I also took on mural painting commissions and wrote and illustrated a few children's books. In the late 90's I began teaching art adult education courses for Central Sussex College as well as running my own art courses. I sell my paintings mostly in on-line galleries but also through real world galleries and exhibitions. I have exhibited at the Mall galleries in London, Chelsea open exhibition, local galleries such as Chequer Mead, East Grinstead, The Hawth Theatre, Sheffield Park, Lingfield, Brighton festival, Shoreham gallery and many others.
