All Seeing Eyes
This woodcut print was created to celebrate the Gothic cleverness and beauty of the raven-some are even able to speak! Very Edgar Alan Poe! This design has been handcarved on to Japanese professional grade Shino Ply, which has a beautiful distinctive grain, which means every print is completely unique. Each raven image is printed using Cranfield UK made water based ink onto thick 250gsm 100% recycled white card. The image is printed into the middle of an A4 sheet, leaving a crisp thick white border, so there is no need for a mount. This is a limited edition of 150.Each print will be signed and dated. Assembling Horse is a large original equine oil painting (47x32x0.5 inches) of an art nouveau, semi abstract, golden purple horse assembling out of nothing. The inspiration for this painting was simply that I find horses very beautiful and I sometimes just need to indulge in painting one just to feel happy. This horse is being created out of golden particles assembling out of the ether. I like this idea as all life forms are basically assembled from smaller particles so all I am doing here is showing the process in a more fanciful way. The horse is painted realistically around the eye and parts of its face in contrast to other parts of her which are partially formed, transparent or decorated for no particular reason other than it looks pleasing to me. The colours range through dark blue, purples, lilacs, golds and pinks and is thin and transparent in places and thick in others which further add to the idea of the horse in the process of appearing. I am a great fan of the artist Gustav Klimt and this possibly shows in this painting as he too liked to contrast realistic with abstract and decorativeness in the way that I am doing here. It is painted on thin canvas, edges white, ready to hang.
My thanks to Isabel Morelli for the reference photograph. "Don't ruffle my feathers"! one blue and yellow macaw seems to be saying to the other in this pencil painting by Elaine Jones. The blue and yellow, or blue and gold macaw, ara ararauna, is native to tropical South American woodland and can grow to 30-34 inches and a weight of 2 or 3 pounds. These large, long-lived members of the parrot family are widespread in much of South America and are popular as pets because of their brilliant plumage, intelligence and ability to talk. In the wild they nest in dead palm trees and pairs usually mate for life, often reaching an age of 30-35 years. This original pencil painting is presented in a cream mount/matte ready for framing. (Image size approx. 29cm x 21cm" - external size 35cm x 28cm)
